Racism is very common in the US and has been for centuries. From the very beginning, this system was used to justify slavery and cruelty towards the native people of America. A few centuries ago, there were social norms that forbade treating people as slaves, putting chains on them, and humiliating their dignity just because they wanted to. However, people of color (POC) were seen as something less than all other people, so it was possible to turn a blind eye to these norms of behavior towards them.

Also, the concept of race is very closely related to the economic and political system of the United States. This system has exploited and profited from the labor of colored workers for centuries. So, white people got more because people of color got less. This is one of the main reasons why the system of racism has thrived for so long.

Here, you may be wondering, "So, society can overcome racism simply by equalizing the social and economic conditions of white people and people of color?" It would be nice if everything were so easy. Racism has taken root in the minds of Americans, and that is why there are still problems with it. A turning point in the fight against racism was the election of a black man as president of the United States. The example of Barack Obama, who was elected twice, showed that people of color deserve more and can get more.

Nevertheless, this question is still very acute in modern society. Racism still gives rise to many controversial topics. Of course, there cannot be one opinion and statement on such complex issues. However, how do you know that the problem is really about race? Here are some identifiers that can help with this. First, the issue is about race if a person of color thinks it is. Second, it is about race if the issue has even the slightest effect on people of color. Third, if something affects people of color in any way due to a system, then it's a race-related issue.
