Giuseppe Onorato worked for a long time as a doorman on Via Palestro, where the headquarters of the Gucci fashion house was located. As a young man, Onorato was a soldier in the south of Italy, and even many years later, he retained the observant skills that helped maintain security. Years of practice helped Onorato recognize people with bad intentions, fraudsters, and terrorists, an essential skill to his profession.
One day in 1995, while sweeping leaves, Onorato saw an unfamiliar dark-haired man who seemed to be waiting outside for someone. The doorman didn't pay much attention to him and returned to his thoughts. After a while, a car pulled up to Via Palestro, and Maurizio Gucci, the head of the Gucci fashion house, got out. He had opened his office in Via Palestro a year ago and came to visit almost every day.
The Gucci family was one of the most famous dynasties in Italy. While Ferragamo luxury goods were associated with quality and Bulgari with craftsmanship, Gucci symbolized elegance. Even though this country has given the world many famous people, such as Giorgio Armani or Gianni Versace, Gucci held a special place in the hearts of Italians. Looking at the representative of this great fashion dynasty, Onorato often wondered what it would feel like to be so rich and influential.
However, this time, the thoughts were interrupted as soon as he saw an unfamiliar man from outside confidently following Maurizio. The fact that the man waited so long and didn't call out Mr. Gucci's name alarmed Onorato, but it was too late. The dark-haired man pulled out a gun and, with three quick bullets, hit Maurizio in the hip, left shoulder, and right arm. Maurizio's last look showed that he recognized his killer.
Onorato froze in shock and couldn't move until he saw that the killer's gun was pointed at him. The man was mentally ready to die because he realized that he was the only witness, and the chances that the killer would decide to let him live were minimal. However, the stranger just shot him in the arm and ran out of the building. A few minutes later, the police were at the scene, and the first thing Onorato told them was, “It was a man with a gun.”
That was the end of Maurizio Gucci. How did everything start?
