Alma Katsu's "Hunger" is based on the story of the Donner party, a group of pioneers stranded because of heavy snow in the Sierra Nevada. Starvation and fear drive these people mad, creating an unsettling horror setting. Katsu also adds a reimagining to the plot, so be prepared for a supernatural twist.
