The famous American rock singer Patti Smith was born in Chicago during the Great Blizzard of 1946. Later, her family moved to Pennsylvania, which was not easy for the little girl. However, despite these difficulties, Patti was a creative child and developed her imagination through books and prayer. She found solace in the stories, which helped her overcome the hardships. Little Patti's self-expression began when she saw a swan of incredible beauty in Humboldt Park. She admired the creature for a long time and remembered this moment for the rest of her life.
Patti had a childhood friend, Stephanie, who had a huge collection of comic books. Patti liked them so much that she took a few of them one day without telling her friend. Stephanie had leukemia and later died. This event touched Patti deeply and made her feel guilty for taking the comics. To find comfort, she turned to prayer. This was her first experience of understanding sin and forgiveness, which influenced her future outlook.
A new challenge for Patti was moving to New Jersey, where she again faced loneliness and isolation. However, she discovered a new passion for art, which was further strengthened by seeing Picasso's paintings at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Smith won first place in her school's art competition and was able to buy all the supplies she needed. This is how her new dream of becoming an artist was born because this profession allowed her to see the world differently.
At the age of 20, Patti faced another serious problem with an unplanned pregnancy due to her inexperience. Her parents and neighbors condemned her, and she was forced to leave her family and start a new life. At the same time, Smith realized that she would not be able to raise a child on her own. Therefore, she made a difficult decision to give her newborn child up for adoption. Even though she was supported by her friend Janet Hamill all this time, Patti had no other friends. Also, she realized that she was unlikely to find better prospects in her town, so she decided to move to New York. This was the beginning of a new chapter in Patti Smith's life.
