For many of us, mornings are nothing short of frustrating. We get out of a warm bed to face the cruel and depressing world of adulthood. And yet, there is a way to change that.
For starters, perhaps the cause of your frustration is rising too late. Trying to get everything done in half an hour makes you jittery, breaks your essential routine, and ends up turning your mornings into chaos. But what if the thought of rising earlier makes you want to kill yourself? You should gently and gradually accustom your body to waking up five minutes earlier each day. The optimal wake-up time is individualized for everyone, so experiment and find your ideal wake-up time.
MIT President Leo Rafael Reif is definitely a busy man. He has the responsibility of a huge company on his shoulders. To cope with his tasks, Reif has to get up early. That is why his alarm clock is always set for 6 am. However, this is almost always unnecessary because his internal clock helps him wake up at 5:00 or 5:30. After that, Reif goes about his morning routine, including reading the news, looking at messages, and eating breakfast.
However, what allows him to maintain this schedule? The answer is straightforward: motivation. Leo Rafael Reif finds his work extremely important. The core of your motivation lies in simply doing what you enjoy, like Andre D. Wagner, for example. His routine is different from Reif's because he tries to wake up at six in the morning to be alone with himself and put his thoughts in order. Also, Andre D. Wagner keeps a journal for this purpose. He believes that this morning routine helps him survive the constant communication with people at his job.
Hence, give your head time to come to rest before you dive into the flow of daily life. Morning rituals can help you with this, but you don't necessarily need to keep a journal for this. Even the simple process of making your bed can help you wake up and get into a pace. Alternatively, you could do a morning jog or walk. Fresh air and sunshine like no other will help you feel better!
