For thousands of years, philosophers, Buddhists, psychologists, and other intelligent individuals have been trying to convey a simple yet profound message to us: happiness is not about money. And they are right to some extent, but people often misunderstand this phrase, concluding that being poor is enough to achieve happiness. However, this is where the colossal mistake of these people is.
You cannot be fully satisfied with life when you don’t have the money to buy your son winter boots. Without money, you also cannot develop your talents and pursue your hobbies. And then the question arises, is your life fulfilling when there is no development in it?
If you grew up in a low-income family, you were most likely taught to be content with little. You might have also learned not to be selfish, since not all of our desires have to be fulfilled. Sometimes, we have to give up one thing to get another. However, ask yourself again if this is actually the truth for you? Is this the life you would voluntarily choose for yourself?
There are three primary motives for human life: the body, the mind, and the soul. You cannot prioritize one while neglecting the other. Each of them is a pillar on which your existence stands. You could become a monk, retire to a monastery where you would torture your body with work and lack of food. And no matter how much you might claim that your soul is now at peace, you are likely to be deeply sad in the depths of that very soul. However, with money, you can find new, comfortable opportunities.
You may argue that chasing material goods is foolish and low, but that would be hypocrisy on your part. You would never be happy if your daughter married a poor man, at the same time, you yourself were looking for a better-paying job. Therefore, you should not be embarrassed about your desire to become rich. You should strive to become what you want to become. To enjoy the things you want to enjoy. And for all of that, you need money. Embrace it and say, “I give myself permission to be rich and work for it”.
