How to manage stress

When you think about how to reduce stress, you often start to stress even more. Well, many people understand your worries. However, sooner or later, you will have to pull yourself together and finally take action.

How to manage stress

And while you can't completely get rid of stress, another, more realistic question you should ask yourself is "How to manage stress?"

You may be disappointed, but there is no one-size-fits-all strategy for this. After all, various people with different experiences and circumstances can react to stress differently, just as they can cope with it differently. However, perhaps you, like thousands of other people, will be helped by a couple of tips outlined below.

Remove TikTok from your phone

Today, we are obsessed with productivity. However, we can't be blamed for this because the cult of productivity is the norm that society has invented for us. We are constantly in a hurry to get somewhere, because an eight-hour workday makes it extremely hard to have time to exercise, spend time with family, and so on. However, what do you do when you get home from work?

Studies show that many people spend up to two hours scrolling through social media after work. It's these seemingly small, almost unnoticeable activities that take up a huge amount of your time, leaving you stressed and anxiously scrubbing floors at two in the morning.

Buy a gym membership instead of a bottle of wine

When we're stressed out, we often want a dose of quick endorphins. Hence, chocolates, alcohol, cigarettes, or spontaneous purchases come into play. However, this doesn't bring us any real joy, as you will end up getting much more harm from such things. On the other hand, you can invest your resources in long-term joys.

For example, you can go to the gym to lift weights. Although it sounds scary at first, you will soon fall in love with it because exercising gives your body a much higher dose of endorphins than any sweets. Plus, you'll look great – a total benefit!

Fool your brain and make it love walking

If the previous idea doesn't seem to be working for you, then you should understand how habit works. In fact, your body is used to living in a "stress - cigarette - less stress" pattern. And it's not about the cigarette; it’s about the habit! You have to trick your brain. Get it to activate the "stress - gym - less stress" pattern. And you don't have to use the gym in this pattern at all.

For example, you can use “walking,” “spending time with your family,” “painting,” or “learning Chinese.” Your body will adjust to any pleasant routine by developing a reflex. In this way, you will convert stress into energy by stimulating yourself to engage in more activity in response to stress.

Be careful when you are craving stress

Many people suffer from a boring life. When this kind of thing happens, they try to find adventure, thus trying to induce artificial stress in order to have fun. We all have a friend who is entering her fifth relationship with a mentally unstable older guy. Why is she doing this? Because sometimes people crave stress.

It's important for your friend and many people with her problem to realize that a "boring life" is more often than not a sign that you are safe. Wanting to live interesting is completely normal, but don't try to get out of a boring life by introducing irrational and unnecessary stress. Instead, you can satisfy your need for stress by skydiving or watching a horror movie - the important thing is not to destroy yourself because you are “bored.”

Pray, meditate, and increase your spiritual intelligence level

Meditation is a great way to deal with stress, no matter how skeptical you may be about it. If you're a religious person (voluntarily religious, not because your mom made you), you'll likely agree that prayer is incredibly calming when you focus on your thoughts, God, and prayer. Meditation, unlike prayer, is a universal soldier because you can achieve the same effect with it without faith.

Often, people get stressed because they can't hear their inner thoughts behind the noise of the world around them. However, when you meditate, you can finally hear them. Dive into your consciousness and pull from it the answers to all the questions you have been wondering about.

Protect your boundaries to be happier

Frequently, the people around us can be the cause of our stress. Although in some situations, there is nothing we can do about it, it is vital to reduce the level of their negative influence on our lives. To do this, you must learn to assert your boundaries. This can be difficult, especially if you have been taught since childhood that no is a bad word.

However, you must prioritize yourself if you want to be happy. It might seem fun to be "comfortable" because you get a lot of credit that way. You are loved and praised. However, you are unhappy as a result, aren't you? Realize that the love you get from people by being convenient for them is not really what you want. Think about what you want and learn to say it politely but firmly.

Make a plan to reduce deadline stress

A common cause of stress is your lack of organization. It is a known fact that freelancers are much more likely to face stress due to deadlines than people who work 8/5. This is because freelancers make their own work plans, often leaving all the work to the last day. They can also be negatively affected by their home environment. Everyone has had it happen to them: you have a sudden urge to clean your apartment, wash dishes, or write a book just when you should sit down and work!

The solution to this problem is straightforward – make a clear, achievable plan. You should read the word achievable twice because, having too many things written down in your schedule, you won't want to stick to it anytime soon. Take this seriously and maturely because it's a huge step towards cutting your work stress in half.

So, you may have already found your personalized answer to how to overcome stress, but don't be alarmed if you are still lost. Dealing with stress is a process that doesn't end after one day. In fact, it may take you many years to reach the peak of your peace of mind when you can easily make decisions in stressful situations, experiencing a minimum of anxiety and despair.

Although this text advises you to turn to meditation as a way to deal with stress, you can use other techniques that are right for you. For example, some people turn to breathing treatments, while others start reciting mantras and affirmations to themselves. Think about what you need and start exploring the vastness of your soul!
