Usually, we do not accept things as they are. Satisfactory level is not enough, and we strive for more. However, it’s better to stick to another option. For a moment, one should accept a satisfactory result as fine.

No matter the situation or the lifetime moment we’re going through, one question regularly pops up: “Have we reached the destination yet?” This is what people often ask themselves about their career path. Unfortunately, it never looks like we are going to get to the destination. Even if we do, it practically always differs from our expectations, be it gaining more fame, success, or financial stability.

This upsets people a lot. As a result, we keep going to get better results, thinking that it will take us to another level of success and happiness. This behavior becomes more and more embodied in modern culture. It looks like some form of addiction, which psychologists labeled as a “hedonic treadmill.”

Furthermore, we’re surrounded by people who work their fingers to the bone wherever we go. For example, the content we see on social media is crucial to our mindset, as it shows that other people are better or achieve more. We can’t help but compare ourselves to them. Consequently, people neither cherish the moment nor value their achievement. That’s how we always get back to the one big question: “Have we reached the destination yet?”

Still, it surely doesn’t mean that everyone thinks like that. By contrast, people who broke that dogma and started creating their own rules for life feel much happier. They learned how to be satisfied with real-time achievements and the process itself. At the same time, they aren’t procrastinating or simply idle. The ambitions they work on and the tasks and aims they set for themselves drive them through life. Moreover, the fact that they have not yet reached the ultimate goal doesn’t trigger negative emotions.

Wouldn’t it be better to think, “Isn’t here good enough for now?” instead of seeking the promised land? You surely won’t be standing in the same place forever, but it could actually be nice to appreciate it for a moment. Such a change of perception can fill your life with peace.
