Venture beyond the confines of the comfort zone is not easy. Our working culture, with burnout, anxiety, and constant stress, doesn’t make it easier, either. Recent global crises, like the pandemic, taught us to choose security and stability over the risk of new opportunities. Modern corporate culture only worsens the deal. Imagine software tracking your mouse movements, unrealistic performance expectations, and enduring countless aimless meetings. For many, this is a reality, not just imagination.

How could we change it? Just think about honeybees. At the end of winter, the hive’s Queen lays a fertilized egg – the soon-to-be new Queen Bee. From then on, the whole colony protects the egg, feeds it, and prepares the hive for when she is finally born. Just before the egg hatches, when the hive is fully stocked with food and ready for the new generation, the old Queen and a small swarm of her workers leave the colony.

This new swan is practically defenseless in the outside world and can only survive for a few days. Scout bees have to find a suitable location for a new hive, where the colony builds their new home from the ground up. This is called the increase, and it’s undoubtedly inspiring. The bees never fully settle, taking on a new challenge every time and working together to solve it.
