Imagine a situation where you are doing something important, like preparing for an interview with a prestigious company. However, all of a sudden, there is a thin voice in your head telling you, "I won't succeed," or "Mom was right, I should never have gotten into this." These thoughts can fill your head like parasites, causing anxiety and preventing you from moving forward.
All people encounter the inner dialog in one way or another. It is not always judgmental; it can also help you evaluate a situation. Sometimes, we may not be aware of its presence at all, and as a result, the "voice" becomes part of us, part of our thoughts. However, the voice may not be objective. For example, it may tell you that your efforts are insufficient or that your friend will always be more successful than you. Of course, seeing this voice as part of yourself, you will listen to it in one way or another and begin to think of yourself as inferior to others.
Looking at this voice objectively will help you deal with it. Imagine your voice is your annoying old neighbor, Bruce. He will never stop nagging you, no matter how you behave, when you get up, what you wear, or what you look like. However, when Bruce grumbles at you, do you think there's something wrong with you? No, it's all Bruce's fault! Just stop listening to him!
To deal with that harmful inner voice, try observing it. Pay attention to that voice when you take a shower. Many people can't spend this time alone because they are visited by “Bruce” telling them about all their sins of the month or embarrassing situations from the past. Allow them to say whatever they want, but don't consider them substantial. Simple mindfulness will be enough for you to get started. Realize that there is a problem and begin to confront it. Ask yourself questions about whether it's the real you talking to you or if it's Bruce's voice.
